Newton, Kan. – Prairie View welcomes Mwenda Yasa, M.D., and Diane Mancuso,
ARNP, to its clinical staff.
Yasa will serve as child/adolescent psychiatrist. His primary services and responsibilities
• Provision of childhood, adolescent and adult psychiatric clinical services,
including psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, psychopharmacological treatment,
follow-up/monitoring, after-hour emergency response, supervision of psychiatric
nursing staff and consultation and training to clinical staff
• Primary and secondary prevention of mental disorders in the community,
including early recognition and treatment of mental disorders, thereby helping to
reduce the emotional and behavioral vulnerability caused by mental illness
• Working collegially with an interdisciplinary team of physicians, psychologists,
nurses, social workers, educators, counselors/therapists, case workers, lawyers,
• Providing education and enlightenment to patients, families and communities
He recently completed a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at University of New
Mexico School of Medicine, Albuquerque, N.M., and a general psychiatry residency at
University of Missouri – Kansas City (Mo.) School of Medicine. He also completed a
family medicine residency at Medical University of South Africa, Pretoria, South Africa,
and a pathology internship at University of Kansas School of Medicine, Kansas City,
Yasa earned his medical degree from University of Zambia, School of Medicine, Lusaka,
Zambia, and Master of Public Health degree in Community Medicine from St. Louis
(Mo.) University School of Public Health. He also received education from the
University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff, Wales, and Yale University School of
Medicine, New Haven, Conn.
Mancuso will serve clients in an outpatient setting through Prairie View’s Community
Support Program and clinical services in Newton and Hutchinson. She will provide
psychiatric evaluations, psychotherapy and medication management.
She most recently served as Charge RN at University Hospital, San Antonio, Texas, and
has extensive experience in the mental healthcare setting, having previously served in
outpatient community mental health centers, teaching direct care education to providers
of patients with traumatic brain injury, and research at the New York State Psychiatric
Institute and Columbia University Department of Psychology.
She holds degrees from College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, N.J., and Columbia
University School of Nursing and School of Graduate Nursing, New York, N.Y.
