Carlson & Smith Joins Prairie View Team

NEWTON, Kan. – Prairie View Inc., welcomes Mary Ann Carlson, PA-C, MPH, and Steven Smith, MS, MPH, LMAC, SAP, to its clinical staff.

Carlson, a Psychiatric Physician Assistant, will provide assessment and medication treatment for psychiatric medication management of nursing home clients in and around the McPherson area, as well as dementia evaluations.

“When studying psychology as an undergraduate, I became very interested in the science behind behaviors,” she says.  “When I became aware of the potential of providing care to nursing home clients under the Prairie View name, I was excited for the opportunity.”

Carlson’s treatment specialties include neurodevelopmental disorders, schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, dissociative disorders, insomnia, disruptive, impulsive-control and conduct disorder, Alzheimer’s disease and personality disorders.

She earned her undergraduate degrees from University of Kansas and Wichita State University and master’s degree from University of Kansas School of Medicine.

Smith, a Substance Abuse Disorder Case Manager, will provide individual, group and family therapy in addiction treatment to outpatient adolescents and adults ages 7 and older at Prairie View’s Newton office as well as Hillsboro and McPherson.  He will also provide services for clients at the Addictions Treatment Center at Prairie View.

“I enjoy working with the rural population and assisting them in achieving their goals,” says Smith.

Smith specializes in substance abuse treatment and substance use and/or DUI evaluations and in addition generalized wellness.

He earned his undergraduate from Missouri State University and a master’s degree in education from Pittsburg State University as well as a master’s degree in public health from Wichita State University.
