June 22, 2022

NEWTON, Kan. (June 22, 2022) – Prairie View Adult Community Case Manager/Certified Peer Specialist Lisa Howard is the recipient of the Chamberlin-Rapp Recovery Champion Award. The award was given at the 2022 Kansas Recovery Conference, held June 7, in Wichita.

The Chamberlin-Rapp Recovery Champion Award is given to a mental health provider who has exhibited outstanding leadership skills on behalf of Kansas mental health care consumers and the recovery movement in the state. She was chosen for her willingness to go out of her way to help the people she serves access the services they need.

“This award is the highest praise, recognition, simply anything I could ever receive as it comes from my peers as well as those I serve,” says Howard. “Those I serve are special to me. I’m where I’m supposed to be.”

As an adult case manager, Howard provides support to Prairie View clients 18 years of age and older who live with a severe and persistent mental illness.

Case managers help clients in many ways, including the development of symptom management skills, assisting with budgeting, medical appointments, shopping, observing clients filling their medication organizers, facilitating  psychosocial groups, charting progress notes and creating monthly reports.

Howard views her job as “protector and justice seeker.”

“I wish to dispel stigma that surrounds mental illness, and I find myself in a position to be able to be a voice to that end.”
