Prairie View Internship Program Expands
November 7, 2018
Newton, Kan. (November 7, 2018) – Prairie View will expand its internship program this upcoming year.
Previously known for a wide variety of clinical therapy and undergrad nursing internships, the expanded program will allow more opportunities for undergraduate students in the social sciences/business (healthcare) field to gain practicum experience with different internship varieties and options.
“We have always promoted practicum-type opportunities, but admittedly we were mostly focused on undergraduate nursing and graduate/post-graduate psychology internships,” said Patrick Flaming, RN, BSN, director of access services at Prairie View. “I am energized by the collective desire to increase opportunities for those who are pursuing bachelor’s degrees in social work, psychology and other healthcare-related fields.”
With a goal of reducing the stigma of mental health, providing this new opportunity will allow for students to gain real world experience in a growing mental health facility.
Prairie View hopes that by expanding its program, clinicians will be able to teach and inspire young individuals who have a passion for providing mental health services.
“As a practicum student at Prairie View, I had the opportunity to be involved in a wide variety of mental health settings, such as outpatient therapy, inpatient treatment, and a residential facility for youth, with support from experienced and dedicated clinicians,” said Heidi Goerzen, current employee and past intern at Prairie View. “I now have the privilege of working alongside these clinicians, as I was hired at Prairie View after graduating with my degree.”
Prairie View is now in the process of reaching out and communicating with local professors and students about this new opportunity.
