Grant Focuses on Housing Assistance for People with Severe Mental Illness

NEWTON, Kan. (January 11, 2022) – Prairie View has been awarded a $53,856 Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) grant from the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation (KHRC) to help people with severe mental illness afford safe and decent housing.

TBRA awards are funded through the federal HOME Investment Partnerships program administered by KHRC. The grant gives the opportunity of affordable housing for those at or below 50 percent median income. Prairie View’s grant is targeted at persons with severe and persistent mental illness.

Eligible tenants for this grant must reside in Harvey, Marion or McPherson counties. The awarded funds will offer qualified applicants as much as two years of rental subsidy assistance. Households receiving assistance will generally pay no more than 30 percent of their adjusted monthly income for rent.
