Parkman Named Prairie View’s Director of Substance Use Disorder Services
April 6, 2022
NEWTON, Kan. (April 6, 2022) – Shelly Parkman wanted to be a family therapist, but the doors kept opening for a career in substance use counseling. Now, years later, she still enjoys watching miracles happen and helping individuals apply what they’ve learned in treatment.
Parkman, a licensed professional counselor and licensed clinical addiction counselor, joins the Prairie View staff as Director of Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Services. She will be responsible for continuing to build the SUD program, including hiring additional staff, growing the Medication Assisted Treatment program, and aligning the SUD program with the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) initiative.
“I’m also looking to identifying and removing barriers to service,” she says.
Parkman was most recently employed by Valley Hope Association as Clinical Program Director. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Rehabilitation Education from Emporia State University, and a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling, also from Emporia State University.
