Prairie View-East Wichita Welcomes Psychologist Specializing in Eating Disorders, COVID-19 Pandemic Adjustment, Prolonged Grief Disorder

NEWTON, Kan. (July 18, 2022) – Dawn Gettman, PsyD, LP, rejoins the Prairie View-East Wichita clinical staff after more than 20 years. She was previously employed at Prairie View from 1998 to 2001.
Gettman currently provides individual and family therapy to clients ages 16 to 100 years of age.
Her primary specialization is eating disorders, including anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder.
“During my training through the Wichita Collaborative Psychology Internship Program (WCPIP), my primary placement was at the University of Kansas School of Medicine,” says Gettman. The internship provided a rotation in eating disorder assessment and treatment. She subsequently completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Eating Disorders at the University of Kansas School of Medicine.
Her other areas of specialty include COVID-19 pandemic adjustment, prolonged grief disorder, depression, suicidal thoughts, mood, Bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, ADHD, chronic illness, insomnia, caregiver stress and generalized wellness/self-care.
“I desire to engage in a meaningful partnership that helps a client achieve their goals,” she says. “Quality of life can improve when a client is ready, willing and desires to take action. Motivational interviewing is used to evoke hope and confidence that a goal can be reached.”
Gettman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Colorado at Boulder, a Master’s of Social Work degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Denver.
