Schowalter Foundation Awards Grant to Prairie View for Chaplaincy Services

NEWTON, Kan. – Prairie View, Inc., is the recipient of a $7,500 grant from the Schowalter Foundation.
The grant will allow Prairie View to expand worship opportunities and chaplaincy services for clients receiving services from the Addictions Treatment Center and inpatient hospital. This expansion will increase patient access to a chaplain for discussion about spiritual issues, create a new experience in the Prairie View chapel for patients, and continue to provide a spiritual presence from a trained chaplain.
“Some patients have experienced rejection and discrimination in their home church,” says Karen Andres, Prairie View chaplain. “Yet, for many, they also long to feel loved by God, their families, and their congregations.”
“We know that faith and spirituality are readily available natural resources for those facing mental health or addictions challenges. Having a qualified chaplain to serve as facilitator and guide to our patients enhances their healing and strengthens their recovery,” explains Jessie Kaye, Prairie View president and CEO.
The expansion of Chaplaincy Services underscores Prairie View’s creative approach to healing and hope. The holistic treatment plan, which includes attention to issues of spirituality and faith, is part of the church-related mission of the organization.
The chaplaincy program is entirely donor funded, and is an extension of the organization’s mission to foster healing and growth in individuals and communities by providing behavioral health services with compassion, competence and stewardship in the spirit of Christ.
